To commemorate the week of Vesak, Etisalat Lanka will unveil a unique line-up of activities to enrich the Vesak experience for thousands of Sri Lankans congregating in Colombo to be a part of the religious festivities that are organised to commemorate the birth, the enlightenment and the passing away of Lord Buddha.
Located at Town Hall and held under the theme ‘Awakening the thoughts and compassion of the nation by Etisalat’ (Jaathiye Meth Sithuwili Pubudu Karanney Etisalat), the Vesak activities put together by Etisalat Lanka will include a Bhakthi Gee competition involving children from 20 schools, special Buddhist drama performances, a Mobile Digital ‘Thorana’ or Pandol, and a special screening of movies of Buddhist Jataka stories. The Mobile Digital Thorana will be based on the ‘Sri Siddhartha Gauthama’ movie that was shown in cinemas across Sri Lanka last year. Keeping in line with the spirit of the Vesak festival, an ‘Etisalat Spectacle Dansala’ will be conducted in the city of Galle to give away 2,000 spectacles, and is a continuation of the first-of-its-kind Dansala that was held last year.
Etisalat Lanka’s Vesak festivities will run from 14 to 16 May and will be open to the public to be a part of the unique experience in commemorating one of the most important days in the nation’s calendar. Etisalat Lanka invites all Sri Lankans to witness and experience these initiatives and activities.
