Federation of University Women Symposium to address challenges faced by women on 21 March

In accordance with the International Woman’s Day theme ‘Make It Happen’ the Sri Lanka Federation of University Women (SLFUW) has organised an interactive symposium on 21 March at 9 a.m.
The symposium will highlight the program and activities planned by the women ministers to uplift the conditions of Sri Lankan Women and Children. The event will be held at its Resource and Training Centre, Auditorium, 96/25, Kitulwatte Road, Borella, Colombo 8.
The seminar is set to be a platform for all five ministers to address vital issues woman in Sri Lanka face and how to overcome them gradually by delivering guest speeches.
Deputy Minister of Irrigation Anoma Gamage will be speaking on ‘Improving the lives of farmers through access to irrigation Facilities. Deputy Minister of Women’s Affairs Wijayakala Maheswaran will address ‘Overcoming social and economic issues by women headed households’.
State Minister of Children’s Affairs Rosy Senanayake will share her insight on ‘Combating incidents of child abuse and exploitation’. Minister of Foreign Employment Thalatha Athukorale will talk about ‘Issues of migrant women workers’.
Minister of Women’s Affairs Chandani Bandara will talk address one the most talked about topic in recent times ‘Political empowerment of women through representation at national, regional and local government level’.
The event will bring Sri Lanka one more step closer to a world where equality of both genders, men and women, can be achievable.
