Waters Edge marked International Women’s Day on 7 March with ‘Soiled Apron’. The hotel had the entire day lined up with exciting activities for ladies to truly relax, unwind and enjoy.
The renowned culinary gurus, Chef Rohan Fernandopulle and Chef Buddika Samarasekera, kick-started the event with a culinary adventure. The cookery demonstration featured a five-star four course meal which was depicted in a simple way so that it can be made in the comfort of your own home.
The familiar setup up was was graced with the presence of 15 young ladies from Vajira Orphange in Kotte. The girls above the age of 12 illustrated a keen interest in this novel experience; along with 40 other participants who eagerly jotted down notes and instructions as Chef Rohan took centre stage.
‘Soiled Apron’ was concluded with an extended ‘Master Chef competition,’ where the ladies including the girls from the orphanage were put to the test. It was an absolute blast to have all the participants scramble against time to plate the best dishes for Chef Rohan and Buddika. The winners earned themselves delightful vouchers from Waters Edge. This was followed by additional styling tips and quick tricks with a makeup and hairstyle demonstration inclusive of a Q&A courtesy of Cutting Station.
The elegant four course sit down lunch was exceptionally palate pleasing and included blue lagoon prawns and avocado with fish rillete topped with mango salsa and passion vinaigrette, cream of sweet onion hinted with balsamic button much room and leak tart, grilled fillete of sea bass crusted with bell pepper and curried barley risotto with ribbon vegetables and toasted cashew nut mousse served with caramelised strawberry and orange tea compote for the sweet tooth.
The true meaning of the day came alive with the ‘Women Helping Women’ program as the day came to an end by gifting school bags and school supplies to 15 deserving young ladies from Vajira Orphanage. The smiles on their faces truly attested the difference that was made in their lives that day.
The event was an absolute success due to the association and support of Lanka Woman, Daily Mirror, Beko – Singer, Ariyanna Spa and Cutting Station.
