To celebrate Vesak, the security forces in Jaffna have organised a grand Vesak festival, ‘Yapa Patunai Daham Amavai – 2014,’ in the vicinity of the public library from 14-16 May for the fifth consecutive year after eradication of terrorism from the country.
A Vesak zone which includes large Vesak lanterns and a large number of attractive decorations will be displayed for public view. A large pandol lit with 60,000 electric bulbs is being erected and public could view it from 14-20 May at the venue. Large crowds are expected not only from Jaffna but also from other corners of the country during the Vesak season. The soldiers, attached to the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna, are now busy erecting Vesak decorations in Jaffna town.
