Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) president Dr. Saroshi Dubash praised President Mahinda Rajapaksa for providing interest free loan assistance of Rs. 250,000 to women entrepreneurs in the budget proposals for 2014.
Dr. Dubash said that at a Pre-Budget Consultancy Meeting with the President at the Ministry of Finance, the WCIC committee had voiced the difficulty that women entrepreneurs encountered when trying to raise adequate finance for their small businesses. She was delighted that he has placed such high confidence in women entrepreneurs to magnanimously grant their request so expeditiously.
“The facility afforded to small time women entrepreneurs in the current budget of securing interest-free loans up to Rs. 250,000 is a tremendous boost and encouragement for more women to embark into small businesses. His Excellency’s thoughtful gesture will help more women to contribute to the economic development of our nation.”
Our chamber has always assisted women entrepreneurs in every way possible.
Today, women are recognised for their achievements without regard to divisions in nationality, ethnicity, language or culture.
We can look back at our past struggles and accomplishments and more importantly look ahead to untapped potential and opportunities that await further generations of women.
WCIC recognises outstanding achievements of Women under different categories at National level and conducts the ‘The Women Entrepreneur’s of the year’ Awards annually.
