By P.D. De Silva Richmond invited to bat first in the 109th Lovers Quarrel recovered from a disastrous 5/86 assisted by  a determined knock of 137 off 148 balls which included thirteen hits to the ropes and four above it by skipper A K Tyron to declare their innings at a respectable  257/9 a few minutes before tea. Tamith Kalhara captured the first two wickets in successive balls in the 10th over while Mahinda skipper Malith Mahela did the same in the first two balls of the eleventh over to see four of Richmond’s top order batsmen back in the pavilion with the score at 38. But the Mahindians could not capitalize on it with skipper Tyron anchoring the Richmond innings. In reply, Mahinda College were three wickets down with the score on 81 when umpires Ruchira Palliyaguru and Thilak Fernando called off play due to bad light. Mahinda skipper Malith Mahela was unbeaten on 32 while Wanidu Hasaranga, A K Tyron and Waruna Deshapriya had captured one wicket each. A result would be unlikely in the 109th Lovers Quarrel if the Mahinda batsmen could avert the follow on today.
