114th Battle of the Blues: St Servatius Vs St. Thomas’ Matara Sanjika and Lochana put St. Servatius

De Silva Servatian skipper Sanjika Ridma and Lochana Mohotti captured nine wickets between them to put St Servatius in command on the first day of the 114th Battle of the Blues at the Uyanwatte stadium yesterday (21). On winning the all important toss Sanjika invited the Thomians’ to take first lease of the wicket. Openers Nevindu Udesh and STC’s star batsman Lasith Lakshan put on 32 runs for the first wicket before Lasith was caught by Sanjika off the bowling of Lochana for 15. The Thomian batsmen fell prey to the wily left arm leg spin of Sanjika and right arm pace of Lochana except for Nevidu who went on to make 45 runs before pushing one back to Sanjika. Although wicket less the Thominas were unable to score off the right arm off spin of  Ashen Deemantha who bowled seven overs without conceding a run. St. Servatius were in a strong position on 117/3 when umpires Krishantha Rodrigo and Tyronne Wijewardena  called off play at 4:27 p.m. due to bad light at which time Sanjika Ridma was unbeaten on 57 and Ramesh Nimantha was unbeaten on 2. Left hand opening batsman Thushan Eranga scored 40 runs and together with Sanjika shared a 68 run partnership for the first wicket. Hashan Vimarshana, Dilum Krishan and Dilip Tharaka captured one wicket each.
