As the weather kept improving, the MSBA 11th Ram Ratnavale Memorial Trophy Men’s and Women’s knock-out Basketball Tournament 2016 reached the final stage at the Henry Pedris Sports Complex on Friday, 10 June.
The five Men’s Finals and the two Women’s Finals will take place on 15, 16 and 17 June at the same venue.
Following are the results of the last batch of matches played on 9 and 10 June:
Men’s “A” division: Commercial Credit & Finance “A” advanced to the Final, with a crushing 63/48 win over HNB, after leading 30/27 at half time. Thimothi Nithushan (18) was top shooter for the winners, while Anushka Jayalath (15) scored the most points for the losers.
Commercial Credit & Finance “A” will now meet DFCC Bank in the Final on Friday, 17 June at 7.30 pm.
Men’s “B” division: Dialog Axiata advanced to the Final with a fighting, 54/46 win over John Keells Group, after leading 27/22 at half time.
D. Muthukudarachchi (17) and S. Weerasinghe (11) were the match winning shooters for the Winners, while L. Samarasinghe (30) played a diehard game for the losers.
Dialog Axiata will now meet MAS Holdings “Reds” in the Final on Friday, 17 June at 6.00 pm.
Men’s “C” division: Commercial Credit & Finance “B” advanced to the Final with a convincing 67/56 win over NDB Bank, after holding a 29/26 lead at half time.
A. Dewruwan (20) was the top scorer for the winners, while M. Fawshan (16) did likewise for the losers.
Commercial Credit & Finance PLC “B” will now meet HSBC in the Final on Thursday, 16 June at 7.30 pm.
Men’s “D” division: Softlogic Group will meet MAS Holdings “Blacks” in the Final on Wednesday 15 June at 8.00 pm. In the Semi Finals, Softlogic beat Std. Chartered Bank 55/54; MAS Holdings “Blacks” beat Hirdaramani Group 39/30.
Men’s “E” Division: Playing an improved 2nd half, Mobitel advanced to the Final with comprehensive 51/38 win over WNS Global; WNS Global held the upper hand (27/26) at half time.
J. Keshan (25), T. de Silva (11) and skipper, A. Lahiru (10) were the players who turned the heat on in the 2nd half for the winners, while H. Wijesinghe (12) top scored for the losers.
In a postponed Quarter Final match played on Thursday, 9 June, Mobitel beat Abans Group 48/28, after leading 20/10 at half time; P. Fernando (26) was in top form for Mobitel; Mobitel will take on the debutants, Union Bank in the Final on Wednesday, 15 June at 6.30 pm.
The two Women’s Finals are scheduled as follows: “B” division – NDB Bank Vs. MAS Holdings on Wednesday 15 June at 5.00 pm and the “A” division – Commercial Credit & Finance PLC Vs. HNB on Thursday, 16 June at 6.00 pm.
