Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup winning hero Aravinda de Silva will be honoured when he is inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame at a special celebration dinner to be held at the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai on 14 November.
De Silva who won the Player of the Final award at the memorable final where Sri Lanka beat Australia by seven wickets to lift the World Cup at Lahore will become only the fourth Sri Lankan cricketer to be so honoured after Muttiah Muralitharan (2016), Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara (2021). De Silva scored an outstanding century, took three wickets and held onto two catches to steer Sri Lanka to victory. At a time when Sri Lanka cricket is going through hard times, legends like De Silva and their feats on the cricket field will remind fans of the glory days when Sri Lanka ruled the world with their phenomenal achievements. A former captain De Silva, represented his country in 93 Tests and 308 ODIs scoring a total of 15,645 runs in both formats with 31 centuries.
