Sri Lanka Cricket said that the national selectors have nominated 20 players to be handed central contracts for 2022, and the majority of them would sign it after they return from the tour to India.
Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva said that the Sri Lanka team which left for Australia on Wednesday to play five T20Is will travel directly to India for three T20Is and two Tests to allow a smoother bubble to bubble transfer.
De Silva said the team left for Australia signing tour contracts because the central contracts were not yet ready.
“They most probably will sign it before the Indian tour or when they come back from the Indian tour because from Australia they are travelling directly to India to be in the bio-secular bubble,” said De Silva. “The players who would go from Sri Lanka to India will sign the central contracts, the rest will sign it when they come back. The contract will come into effect from 1 February for one year.”
De Silva said that other than the changes to the grading of the players according to their performances over the past year no other clause has been changed in the central contract from last year. (ST)
