Gateway College, Colombo and Mount Lavinia Thomians won in two segments in their second annual football encounters which took place at the Racecourse recently. Gateway accounted for the Under 12 and Under 20 events while Thomians accounted for Under 14 and Under 16 segments.
The only goal was scored by Binitha Chandrasena of the winning team. Best goalkeeper award went to D. Shivadharshan (STC) while most valuable player was Areeb Niyas (Gateway).
Meanwhile Gateway won the Under 12 event too when they beat their rivals by 2/0 in penalty shoot-out after the game ended in a nil all draw.
Best goalkeeper was S. Keshavinanjan (STC) while the Most Valuable Player was Shenuk Fernando (Gateway).
In the Under 14 event Thomians won 1/0. Best Goalkeeper was Nadal Senapala (Gateway) and Most Valuable Player was R.N. Jeshuran (STC). In the Under 16 encounter too Thomians got the better of Gateway 3/0. Best Goalkeeper was S.Y. Anthonisz (STC) while the Most Valuable Player award was won by N.M.M. Perera (STC).
In the Under 20 Girls’ Exhibition Match Overseas School of Colombo beat Gateway 5/3 in penalty shootout.
Best Goalkeeper award was won by Emily Whight (Overseas School of Colombo) while the Golden Boot award too was won by the same school’s Ritisha Mukherjee.
