More than 3,300 participants from many parts of Sri Lanka came together in the spirit of friendly competition recently at the Annual Sports Festival of Ceylinco Life.
Serious efforts at track and field events were interspersed with fun activities as staff and sales professionals of the country’s leading Life insurer competed against one another to demonstrate their sporting abilities at the ninth edition of this event.
Organised by the Ceylinco Life Sports Club, the event was held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium – Diyagama, Homagama with the participation of representatives of 180 plus Ceylinco Life branches island-wide.
Competitors were divided into eight teams this year, for track events that included 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m races for men and women, 100 x 4 and 400 x 4 relays, a 400m walking race for several age groups, as well as a tug-o-war, a fancy dress competition and fun events for heads of branches, business development managers and other managers.
At the end of a day of keen competition, the ‘HA’ and ‘KS’ teams shared honours as overall winners among the men and women. The best athletes at the event were A.J.M. Rishard of the ‘HA’ team and D.K. Wijesiri of the ‘ST’ Team.
Besides the company’s Annual Sports Festival, the Ceylinco Life Sports Club also organises Christmas carols, cricket tournaments, ‘Vesak Bakthi Gee’ and an ‘Avurudu Ulela.’
