Nearly 5,000 boys and girls swimmers from 232 schools all over the island will be seen in action at the 47th annual Sri Lanka Schools All Island Aquatic Championship scheduled to be held from 7-11 December at the Sugathadasa Stadium. The championship will offer a national platform for the 5,000 children to showcase their talents in swimming and diving.
Organised by the Sri Lanka Schools’ Aquatic Sports Association, the championship will yet again be sponsored by Nestlé MILO in line with its ambition of supporting grass-root sports in the country, whilst nourishing children to go further.
The events that will be conducted over the five days are in the age groups of Girls and Boys under 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20. A total of 164 events are scheduled to be worked off – 140 individual and 24 relays.
A total of 2907 boys and 2074 girls’ will be actively involved during the championships from 124 boys’ schools, 60 girls schools and 48 mixed schools.
Provincial wise representation will be as follows: Western Province 88, Central Province 38, Southern Province 45, Sabaragamuwa Province 20, Uva Province 15, Wayamba Province 12, North Central Province 8, Eastern Province 5 and, Northern Province 1.
The current overall champions when the championship was last held in 2019 are: Lyceum College, Wattala (Mixed School), Visakha College Colombo (Girls School) and St. Joseph’s College Colombo (Boys School).
The Chief Guest for the opening ceremony on 7 December at 8 a.m. will be Education Minister Susil Premajayantha and the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony on 11 December at 4 p.m. will be Ministry of Education Secretary M.N. Ranasinghe.
