Vidyartha College ended their rugby season on a winning note when they beat Ananda College 48/16 in their Under-19 annual rugby encounter played for the William Gopallawa Shield at Rajagiriya recently. Vidyartha collected their points from 8 tries and 4 conversions, while Ananda accumulated their points through 2 tries and 2 penalties. This was the very first game played at the Ananda College Rugby Stadium in Rajagiriya.
Vidyartha tries were scored by Nanjana Wijesooriya (2), Hettiarachchi, Yasith Weerasinghe, Mohamed Shafeek, Gayan Perera, Ranidu Gajanayake and Praveen de Mel.
Ananda tries were scored by Chamuditha Dineth and Sachithra Kuragodage while Dineth put over 2 penalties for the hosts.
Out of the 52 encounters Vidyartha leads the tally with 29 to Ananda winning 21 of them, while two encounters ended in draws. (SJ)
