The 5th Annual TPT Hockey Carnival, organised by the Old Boys of S. Thomas’ College, St. Peter’s College and Trinity College, will be hosted by St. Peters’ College, Colombo on 28 September at the St. Peters’ College grounds, Colombo, commencing from 8.00 a.m.
The past stickers of Trinity, St. Peter’s and S. Thomas’ colleges joined together to organise this Seven-a-Side hockey tournament. All three schools have played game for decades and have produced many who have gone on don the Sri Lanka jersey.
The TPT hockey carnival is organised for the wellbeing of hockey as a sport and to maintain and strengthen ties between the three schools. Plans are afoot for this to be an annual event hosted by one of the organising schools. The inaugural tournament was hosted by S. Thomas’ College in September 2015.
The event will be a reunion of past hockey players and also a get-together for the schools’ old boys. Food, beverages, recreational stalls and kiddies’ bouncers for families and children of the old boys will make the occasion a fun-filled family event.
The tournament will be conducted across six age categories, namely Under-14, Under-16, 1st XI teams, 20 to 30, 30 to 40 and 40 and Over Old Boys. This will be a very rare occasion where hockey players of the three schools who are over 40 will look to turn back time.
The Peterite old boys teams walk into this fifth edition of the tournament as champions of all three groups, and will look to defend their championship on home soil. In the schools arena, S. Thomas’ College will defend their 1st IX championship, whilst St. Peters College and Trinity College Kandy will defend their titles in the Under-16 and Under-14 age groups respectively.
The opening ceremony will be graced by the presidents and senior officials of the old boys associations of all three schools along with decorated Peterite sportsman Dinesh Kakulthota. The event’s closing ceremony and awards presentation will be graced by special invitees, past coaches and the community of priests from St. Peters College, led by the Principal, Rector and Warden of the three schools and will commence at 5.00 p.m.
