60th Battle of the Babes – Match evenly poised

The 60th Battle of the Babes between Vidyartha College and Sylvester’s College was evenly poised at thr end of day 1 at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Sylvester’s won the toss and put their opponents in to bat. Pulina Gunathilake stroked an unbeaten century (102) for Vidyartha College with some fine cover drives and lofted off drives inclusive of 10 boundaries in his knock. None of the other batsman’s were able to make a big score. Wickets fell at regular intervals while Pulina held on to one end.

In reply, Sylvester’s made a bold reply with 53 for 1 at stumps on day 1. Chief Scores: Vidyatha 229 all out in 74 overs: Pulina Gunatilake 102 not out, Kasun Karunathilake 28, Gihan Jayasekara 28, Nadeera Balasuriya 3 for 27, Hasindu Nissanka 3 for 47, Nimsara Atharagalla 2 for 60
