73rd Battle of the Golds kicks off today

The 73rd Battle of the Golds Big Match between St. Sebastians and Prince of Wales will take place at De Soysa Stadium in Moratuwa on 21 and 22 April.

Prince of Wales is led by Umesh Mendis, younger brother of National cricketer, Kusal Mendis. Meanwhile Sandesh Fernando leads St. Sebastians College. In the two day series Prince of Wales leads  the tally with six wins to their opponents four while the balance ending in draws.

The last POW win was in 1977 under Premlal Fernando while Sebastians last win in 2011 was under Sanitha De Mel. The limited overs encounter will be the 38th between the two Moratuwa schools with Sebastians leading 18 to POW tally of 15. This year’s match will be played at SSC ground on 23 April. Ceylon Cold Stores, SLT Mobitel and Ceylon Biscuits will sponsor the two events. (SJ)
