The 76th US Junior Amateur Golf Championship featured 265 of the world’s best junior golfers consisting of 16-year-old Reshan Algama from Sri Lanka as well, the first from the island to compete in this prestigious event.

Despite missing the cut, Reshan’s participation was significant, shooting 14 over par and notably outperforming Charlie Woods, son of famous golfer Tiger Woods, who finished with a 22 over par.

Putting was very challenging with green speeds but practicing and gaining experience in playing such conditions is assured for the youngster, who will be able to play in this tournament for the next two years. This will be invaluable for his growth in the sport.

Reshan will now compete in the 124th USGA Amateur Open final qualification at Dakota Ridge in Minnesota. Success there could lead him to participation in the historic 124th USGA Amateur Open next month. (SJ)
