The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC Sri Lanka) celebrated the awarding ceremony of the 9th edition of the Olympic Solidarity Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) on 19 December at the ‘Hemasiri Fernando’ Auditorium, NOC Sri Lanka.

The event was graced by University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka Chairman Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne as Chief Guest.

The ASMC, conducted under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee Olympic Solidarity, spanned an intensive 14 months from August 2023 to October 2024. Designed to enhance the capabilities of sport administrators, the course featured seven sessions, each comprising two days, and covered six comprehensive modules: Organising an Olympic Sport Organisation, Managing Strategically, Managing Human Resources, Managing Finance, Managing Marketing, and Organising a Major Sport Event.

This initiative served as a valuable platform for individuals affiliated with national sport associations and other organisations dedicated to the development of sport in Sri Lanka. A rigorous selection process was implemented, with 31 applicants undergoing one-on-one interviews and written assessments. Ultimately, 25 candidates were selected to participate, including one NOC Sri Lanka staff member and another candidate who was given the opportunity to complete sessions missed during a previous batch.

“NOC Sri Lanka has consistently showcased its unwavering commitment to the development of sports in Sri Lanka,” stated Chief Guest Prof. Seneviratne during the ceremony. “Through impactful initiatives such as the ASMC, the NOC SL has played a pivotal role in promoting the Olympic Movement and reinforcing Olympic solidarity within the country. Their dedication is truly commendable and continues to inspire the sports community in Sri Lanka.”

The course was expertly directed by ASMC Program Director B.L.H. Perera and facilitated by a distinguished team of experts: Maxwell de Silva, Lalitha Mendis, and Kinithi Jayatissa. Supporting the delivery of the sessions were Provisional Program Directors Eranga Fernando and Hansika Wijayagunasekara, ensuring a high standard of learning and engagement throughout the program.

The awarding ceremony recognised the dedication and accomplishments of the participants. Each successful candidate was presented with a diploma certificate endorsed by the International Olympic Committee Olympic Solidarity. The certificates were awarded following a meticulous review of the comprehensive report submitted by the ASMC Program Director, reflecting the participants’ exceptional commitment and the program’s quality.

NOC Sri Lanka remains committed to its mission of strengthening the administrative and strategic capabilities of sport organisations through innovative and impactful educational programs.

The 9th edition of the ASMC stands as a testament to the committee’s unwavering dedication to empowering sport administrators with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and inspire in the dynamic world of sports.
