The meet was a resounding success with the host school’s swimmer Nikhileshwaran Kumaraguru setting a new record in the 50 m Backstroke in the Under 14 age group. Kumaraguru was also the proud recipient of three gold medals for the 50 m Butterfly, 100 m Butterfly and his record-breaking Backstroke. He was also adjudged the Under 14 Boys’ Age Group Champion.
AIS bagged six gold, four silver and 11 bronze medals at the meet. Anuk Ranasinghe claimed gold in the Under 20 100 m Freestyle Boys’ category, while in the Girls’ category Thinara Lokuge won Gold in the Under 14 100 m Backstroke and Shanaya Perera won Gold in the Under 14 50 m Breaststroke.
This year too the championships generated much excitement with compliments and accolades being showered on hosts AIS for conducting a tournament on this scale for 25 years.
“This is an event which is looked forward to by both students and parents of international schools and we as hosts are proud of the fact that we have been able to successfully stage it for 25 consecutive years,” said AIS Principal Harshana Perera.
The heads of all international schools served as chief guests, distributing awards on both days of the meet.
