Champion team Ace Capital CC
Ace Capital CC facing a big first innings deficit at one stage at 129-8 chasing Moors SC’s total of 233, staged a splendid rearguard action through their tailenders Sasanka Nirmal and Danal Hemananda to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat scoring 317 to win the SLC Major Club Under-23 2-day final played at the Colts grounds on the first innings.
Ace Capital CC began the final day not too happily placed at 110-5 which soon became 129-8 as Moors SC managed to grab three early wickets including those of the two overnight batsmen, Sakuna Liyanage and Raveen de Silva. But Nirmal and Hemananda, the number 9 and 10 batters, had other ideas as they stitched together a match-winning partnership of 166 for the ninth wicket that sealed the match in Ace Capital CC’s favour.
Kalutara-born Nirmal who has yet to play a first-class match, went onto score a maiden century – (106* off 167 balls, 9 fours, 2 sixes) and Hemananda scored his maiden one-day fifty – 70 off 119 balls (7 fours, 1 six) as they carried Ace Capital CC to a memorable win.
In the remaining time left Moors SC scored 124-3 in their second innings with Omesh Mendis slamming a quickfire half-century off 26 balls (5 fours, 4 sixes). – [ST]
