Adeesha tipped to lead Sri Lanka Sevens

Adeesha Weeratunga of Sri Lanka Navy is being tipped to lead the Sri Lanka Sevens rugby outfit for the Asia Rugby Sevens 2021, which will take place in UAE on 19 and 20 November. Eight teams will lock horns in this only event for 2021 in the shorter version of the game.

Three players each from Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Navy, CH & FC, the Silva brothers from Sri Lankan Police and one player from Sri Lanka Army are tipped to make it on tour. This could be also the first time in Sri Lankan rugby history two brothers tour with the Sevens outfit in the same team.

Former Kingswoodian, Kandy SC, Navy SC and former coach of several leading schools and former national Sevens player Nilfer Ibrahim, will be the Head Coach of the outfit with England Sevens sensation Ben Gollings the Consultant Coach of the Men’s and Women’s outfits.

The finalist will book their berth for the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 in South Africa. (SJ)

Probable 12 for UAE tour (Subject to ministry approval): Nuwan Perera, Ishara Madushan, Anjula Hettiarachchi (Sri Lanka Air Force), Sachith Silva Iroshan Silva (Sri Lanka Police), Sudharaka Dikkubura (Sri Lanka Army), Adeesha Weeratunga, Kanchana Ramanayake, Nishon Perera (Sri Lanka Navy), Samual Ogbebor, Kushan Indunil, Janidu Dilshan (CH&FC).
