Gold segments players with SLG offcials and sponsors

Aditthya Weerasinghe from Anuradhapura shocked a much fancied 12-year-old Thejas Rathis Kanth in one of the quarter-final encounters in the Silver division at Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) at the Junior Match Play Championship 2023 for the coveted Rukmini Kodagoda Trophy progresses to the semi-final stage. 

The event which is sponsored by Perera and Sons Bakers will see its 3rd day (23 August) with all semi-final encounters will take place today at RCGC. 



Gold Division: Reshan and Jevahn in battle for the final spot 

K. Danushan marked his presence with an impressive 4/2 victory over Imran Nazeer in the Quarter-finals of the Gold Division. Meanwhile, Reshan Algama, the powerful left-handed golfer, continued his winning streak with a resounding 6/5 triumph over Sankkanth Hesara from Anuradhapura. Jevahn Sathasivam secured his place in the semi-finals with a hard-fought 1-up win on the 18th hole with some classy golf and continued his form in tandem. Another closely contested match saw Vinuda Weerasinghe emerge victorious against Jacob Norton, finishing 3/2.

Girls’ Gold Division and Silver Division: Kaya in supreme class as usual

In the Girls’ Gold Division, Kaya Daluwatte, displaying her dominance, is expected to progress smoothly and face Dinumi Sanjana in the semi-finals. The second semi-final promises a gripping contest between Dhavinka Kanag-Isvaran and the 2nd seed, Sherin Balasuriya.

 In the Silver Division Girls, Kaitlyn Norton and Amindi Umata are poised to clash, while Dilini Amarwansa will challenge Keya Abhayaratne in the other semi-final matchup. 



Silver Division Boys: Aditthya in top form

Twelve-year-old Thejas Rathis Kanth was defeated 2/1 by the emerging talent Aditthya Weerasinghe from Anuradhapura. Meanwhile, Keshav Algama, the hard-working younger brother of Reshan Algama, made his presence felt by securing a spot in the semi-finals, defeating T. Deshan. Kaiyan Johnpillai solidified his spot with a convincing victory over Varun Fernando. 



Bronze Division

 In the Boys Bronze Division, Revaan Amarasinghe clinched victory with a score of 4/3 against Udeera Bandara, while Lavindu Premaratana overcame B.A. Sadaneth 3/2. Anjula Methsara and Yehansa Senanayake advanced to the semi-finals by beating Divyesha Silva (8/7) and Saqueer Zuhair (3/2) respectively. 

In the Girls› Bronze Division, the semi-finals are set between Genuli Abesundara and Vihara Herath, and Hesandi Gayasa Meepola against Nimasha Dhamli from Anuradhapura.



 Copper Division 

Jaeden Sathasivam, the young contender, emerged triumphant with a 6/4 victory over Samitha De Silva in the Copper Division. Jaeden will now face Ananya Kishanthan in the semi-finals. In another semi-final match, Sashen De Silva will compete against Yuvan Rathis Kanth.
