The Sri Lankan women’s outfit will come out full of confidence after two consecutive fifth-place finishes in Hong Kong and South Korea, expecting a top-four finish in the Colombo leg which will be worked off on 13 and 14 October at the Racecourse rugby grounds in Colombo.
Speaking to the Daily FT, Sri Lanka women’s Head Coach Sudath Sampath said: “We have done well after a shaky start in Hong Kong. During Day Two, our girls settled well after a lack of match practice and a long layoff without games. We won the plate and secured fifth position from eight teams and repeated the same form in the second leg in South Korea. Coming into the last leg in Colombo, we want to finish one step ahead; we want to finish in the Cup segment.”
“For this, we will need to beat the Hong Kong outfit. We will take things one game at a time but in the end we want to finish within the top four. We have trained hard and had our share of injuries but we need to keep them back and play the best available side for this event.”
Sudath went on to thank his superiors in the forces and sponsors SAGT for the continued support offered to women’s rugby in the country.
