All-Island School Games Athletics Championships Peterites and A. Ratnayake MMV Walala stamp their c

St. Peter’s College and A. Ratnayake MMV Walala clinched the boys’ and girls’ overall titles respectively at the All-Island School Games Athletics Championships which concluded at the Sugathadasa Sports Complex.

St. Peter’s College collected a total of 165 points and edged out defending champions Maris Stella College who had to be content with being runners-up with 88 points. Ratnayake MMV was placed third with a total of 76 points.

Meanwhile, A. Ratnayake MMV retained the senior girls’ overall title with a massive total of 187 points to their credit. Sumana Balika MV Ratnapura (80) and Gateway College Rajagiriya (53) were placed second and third respectively.

In the junior boys’ overall championship, Royal College Colombo emerged champions with 37 points followed by Vidyawardene MV Ambalangoda (20 points) and St. Joseph Vaz College (18 points).

Musaeus College took the junior girls’ overall title with a total of 26 points while Lyceum International Nugegoda (20 points) was pushed into second place with Vijeyakatupotha MV Chilaw and Holy Family Convent Colombo emerging joint third with 17 points each.

Pasindu Kodikara of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala was named the Best Athlete in the Boys’ segment. He won the Under-20 Boys’ 400 meters in a time of 47.54 seconds. Randi Coorey of Gateway College Colombo was selected as the Best Athlete in the girls’ bracket. She won the Girls’ Under-20 triple jump with an effort of 12.74 m.

Meanwhile, the Western Province retained the overall championship by collecting a huge 1,440 points. The Central Province, with 505 points, emerged runners-up while the North Western Province with 376 points placed third. (SJ)
