Ananda College, Colombo gained major honours by defeating Zahira College, Colombo on the first inning to retain the T.B. Jayah Trophy in their inter school cricket match played at Ananda Mawatha on Friday.
Taking first lease of the wicket, the hosts piled up a mammoth 309 for the loss of six wickets declared in 54 overs before the game was halted due to rain.
The Zahirian batters never looked comfortable against the rival bowling firepower, and at one stage were reeling at 67 for 7 before being bowled out for 96 runs in their first inning.
Forced to follow on, they made a steady start and were 71 for the loss three wickets, but once again threw away their wickets executing some rash shots. They were struggling at 79 for 6 wickets when the game was called off due to bad weather.
