Anouk and Jacob secure titles at NEGC Club Championship

The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) Club Championship 2024 concluded with thrilling performances across multiple divisions, with experienced Anouk Chitty accounting for the Ladies Club Championship while youngster Jacob Norton, who was in sparkling form on both the days, won the Gents Club Championship.

Over 60 golfers teed off in the annual event at the top-conditioned NEGC course in the Hill Country.

The event was sponsored by pro shop owner Rizmy Sheriff.

Graeme Sinclair Cup 2024

The Graeme Sinclair Cup saw an intense contest between skilled golfers.

Imran Nazeer put up a commendable effort to secure the runner-up position with 34 points in the CB category. However, the ultimate victory belonged to Prabath Gamage, who clinched the title with an impressive 35 points. This event took place on the initial day.

Club Championship 2024

The prestigious Club Championship 2024 was a two-day event where players competed fiercely for top honours.

The gross division witnessed an outstanding performance by Jacob Norton, who emerged as the overall winner. Suhayb Sangani displayed remarkable grit and finished as the runner-up. The winner was selected on the best gross scores.

Masters’ Division

The Masters’ Division was another highlight of the championship, featuring intense competition.

Anura Danthanarayana ended as runner-up to Lanka Shanthia, who ultimately secured the championship title. Winners were selected on best nett scores.

Division C was won by Shrimal Abeykoon, pushing Suresh Jayasekeran to runner-up position. Division B was won by Jayalath Perera, with Dihan Dehigama ending as runner-up. Division A saw Suhayb Sangani showing supreme class while Chandana Gunasekera ended runner-up.

On the first day, the prize for Nearest to the Pin was won by Asanka Sahabandu. The Longest Drive was won by Jacob Norton.

Norton, who had a fabulous weekend of golf, returned to Colombo with another award – the Annual Gold Medal – awarded for the best gross score on Day 1.

Ladies Club Championship 2024

The Ladies Club Championship was won by Anouk Chitty while Tiru Jesudason ended as runner-up. The Ladies Captain’s Cup was won by the same pair, with Anouk Chitty emerging winner and Tiru Jesudason ending as runner-up. The Ladies Longest Drive was won by Dr. Praveena Dunuwille, while the Nearest to the Pin was won by Anusha Senadhira.
