Arjuna Ranatunga accepting his credentials as the new Chairman of the National
Sports Council from Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe
Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has appointed Sri Lanka’s World Cup winning cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga to head a 15-member National Sports Council yesterday.
The Committee is tasked with advising the Sports Minister on matters leading to the development of sports in the country.
This new Committee replaces the one appointed by former Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa with former Sri Lanka cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene as chairman.
The new members of the National Sports Council comprise: Arjuna Ranatunga (Chairman), Lieutenant General H.L.V.M. Liyanage, Air Marshall S.K. Pathirane, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulagetenna, Amal Edirisooriya, Major-General Rajitha Ampemohotti, Dr. Maiya Gunasekera, Sriyani Kulawansa, Attorney-at-Law Ajith Pathirana, Sunil Jayaweera, Chrishantha Mendis, Lasitha Gunaratne, Nalinda Ilangakoon, Sudath Chandrasekera and Sujani Bogollagama.
