Former Sri Lanka cricket captain and former MP Arjuna Ranatunga has sent a letter to Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa questioning the transparency of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) that is due to take place in Hambantota from 26 November to 16 December.
Ranatunga asks whether the tournament has been approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and whether the ICC Anti-Corruption officials would monitor the tournament.
He further questions which parties the players participating in the tournament has signed their contracts with – Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) or the respective franchise owners – and queries whether SLC had made an assessment of the franchise owners and their activities before inviting them to the tournament.
Additionally, the letter also questions whether it would be in the best interest of the game for someone who has been accused of match-fixing to be the director of the tournament.
