Army SC kept their destiny of laying their hands on the SLC Major T20 inter-club when they entered the final for

the second consecutive year by beating Saracens SC in the semi-finals played at the P Sara Oval on Wednesday.

Joining them in the final on Friday at the same venue will be Colts who defeated BRC in the other semi-final.

Army SC carried too many big guns in their line up to defeat Saracens SC by 52 runs. Former Sri Lanka white ball captain and Army SC skipper Thisara Perera took the game away from Saracens SC’s grasp with a 26-ball fifty that saw Army SC recover from 90-5 to post a challenging total of 169-7. Perera thumped four sixes and two fours in his crackerjack innings that left Saracens SC with too much to chase.

Saracens SC stumbled to 55-7 and eventually finished on 117-8 largely to a 62-run stand for the eighth wicket between Promod Maduwantha (37*) and Akash Senaratne (29). Army SC’s spin trio of Seekkuge Prasanna, Yasoda Mendis and Lakshan Edirisinghe took six wickets to cause the Saracens SC slump.

In a low scoring semi-final where neither side lasted the 20 overs, Colts beat Park rivals BRC by 67 runs. On a track helping the spinners it was no surprise to see both teams opting to open the bowling with spin. Colts put into bat first were dismissed for 128 by BRC’s spin quartet of Duvindu Tillakaratne, skipper Tillakaratne Sampath, Malka Madusanka and Dushan Hemantha, who took two wickets apiece.

The BRC batsmen however failed to capitalise on the opportunity given them by their spinners and succumbed to 61 all out falling to the spin of Colts captain and national cap Akila Dananajaya (3/3) and Muditha Lakshan (2/18). – (ST)
