Asela to coach Sri Lanka Air Force

Former Kannangara College, Petersons SC player and head coach of the D S Senanayake rugby outfit, Asela Deshapriya will take over the Sri Lanka Air Force head coach role in their rugby outfit 2023/2024 rugby season set to kick off later next month. Asela will take over from Shamly Nawas who ended his contract with the forces outfit.

Asela, after leaving school coached Wesley, Ananda, Nalanda and D S at junior level before taking over the senior under-19 outfit at D S from 2009 to 2014. He moved to the Royal under 16 and under 18 head coach role for three years before returning to D S as head coach in 2019. He is also the Western Province Sevens coach for the last seven years.

Asela took D S to the Premier Trophy League and knockout champions in 2022 and ended up in a respectable 5th place among the top schools in the country. (SJ)
