Ashan Silva and Dushan Mudalige clocked the fastest times on four wheels and two wheels respectively at the 23rd Elitakanda Hill Climb organised and conducted by the Southern Motor Sports Club on Sunday.

Ashan driving a Mitsubishi Evolution IX clocked 32.61 seconds while Dushan Mudalige riding a Honda CRF 250cc clocked 34.43 seconds to erase his previous mark of 35.076 seconds.

Dilan Senevirathne who holds the course record for the 540 meter Eliyakanda track on four wheels clocking 32.422 seconds was only able to clock 32.92 seconds this year.

Ashan Silva who recorded the fastest time of the day made it in his second run as his vehicle spun on his first attempt which he finished in over a minute. Speaking to the media he said that he was unable to break the existing course record due to an unexpected defect in the vehicle and in addition the track conditions and the day’s climatic conditions were not ideal. He said that he would be looking forward to set a new course record next year.

The organisers should be commended for the smooth conduct of 23rd Eliyakanda Hilll Climb despite the delay caused due to the few mishaps which made the race more exciting.
