Sri Lankan Men’s rugby players ended at number three in the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy, which concluded in Kathmandu, Nepal recently.
Meanwhile, the Women’s outfit ended at number five out of the eight teams event.
After some remarkable performance by the Men’s on day one with a stunning three wins, the Lankans scored 134 points and conceded only one try against them.
But day two was just losing the grip a bit. They struggled against India in the initial half before breaking free to beat them 22/0, and lost out to Philippines 12/19 in the Cup semi-final encounter which will cost them the Asia Rugby 2025 top tier three leg event. Playing for third position, Sri Lanka handed off Uzbekistan 32/0.
In the Women’s, Sri Lanka narrowly lost out to Indonesia and lost out the Cup-featuring opportunity, but in the end won the Bowl by defeating Uzbekistan 21/19.
