Former Isipathana skipper, national player and one of the former referees produced by the country, Dilroy Fernando was appointed as the new Match Official Manager by Asia Rugby (AR) recently.
With over 20 years of extensive experience in match officiating, coaching, and performance reviewing plus a record 25 Bradby Shield encounters were done by the former Isipathana skipper of 1982.
Dilroy will oversee the logistics of match official operations, maintain comprehensive databases of officials, coaches, and performance reviewers, and ensure strict adherence to budgetary guidelines. He will manage the nominations and appointments process, support performance reviews, and serve as a crucial liaison with team coaches and management on refereeing and law matters.
Additionally, he will play a significant role in the development of male and female match officials and coaches, organising online courses and discussions to promote continuous improvement ensuring Asia Rugby principles and values.
He has been an integral part of the AR competitions, having served as a referee, coach of match officials, and performance reviewer. His international experience includes delivering World Rugby accredited courses in over 20 countries, underscoring his dedication to the sport globally.
Among his many positions held Dilroy has held honourary positions such as President of the Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees, Chairman of Rugby at Isipathana College, and Chairman of Rugby at the Ceylonese Rugby and Football Club.
