Agustín Pichot

Asia Rugby voted with 24 member unions out of 28 for Agustín Pichot to become the next Chairman of World Rugby. The current Chairman Bill Beamount got 2 votes, with 2 of the unions being absent from the voting.

However, Asia’s 28 unions count for only 2 of the total 51 votes on the World Rugby governance and voting system. Due to this yardstick used, AR voting is unlikely to decide the final fate of the candidate. Currently, Asia hosts three of the sevens tournament in the World Sevens Series in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Dubai, with the famous Hong Kong Sevens being the oldest with its 44 year run, which was initiated in 1976 with 8 teams, where Sri Lanka also participated in the initial tournament.(SJ)
