Former Kingswood, Kandy SC and Navy SC player and one of the most respected coaching staff in the country and present Joes and Police Head Coach, Nilfer Ibrahim who was assaulted by a spectator after Joes game against Kingswood, who was admitted to General Hospital in Peradeniya was discharged late in the evening yesterday (10 July).
Kingswood Rugby Union (KRU) President Mahesh Senanayake speaking to Daily FT said “We are really sorry for what happened to Nilfer and we have great respect for him as a player and coach. This incident took place 20 minutes after the game concluded and this has no connection with the match results. We will never approve such a low level of behaviour and we are seeking from the Schools Section if we could ban them for attending any of the home matches conducted by Kingswood College. Further we will tighten up our security for the remaining home matches.
Nilfer speaking to Daily FT said “I was in Peradeniya General Hospital under treatment for the last 2 days for the injury on my knee and hand when I got assaulted by a spectator after a match in Pallekele on Sunday (9 July). Hospital Police got down their entry on the incident. I got discharged late yesterday (10 July)”.
