Assistant Referee Mangala assaulted

Assistant Referee Anil Mangala was assaulted within the Air Force premises at Ratmalana at the end of the rugby encounter between Navy and Air Force last weekend.

Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society (SLRRS) President Nizam Jamaldeen, speaking to the Daily FT, said: “Anil Mangala was returning home following the social held in the evening at Ratmalana when he was attacked by a group and left soon after. Mangala was admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital for treatment and was later discharged.”

“We have written to Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) about the incident and I have urged them to take up the matter with the host team. Until then, the SLRRS will not referee any Air Force Sports Club games played at Ratmalana,” Jamaldeen added. (SJ)
