Australia's Under19 Women cricketers, who finished third and last in the Under19 Women’s Tri-Nation T20I series, showed their prowess in the 50-over game by recording their second successive win, beating England Under19 Women by two wickets in a close contest at the Galle Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Australia U19 Women have beaten both Sri Lanka by 88 runs on Friday and England to end the U19 Women’s Tri-Nation ODI series unbeaten.
England, batting first, were all out for 239 in 48 overs, and Australia chased down the score, making 240-8 off 45.3 overs powered by half-centuries from Eleanor Larosa (52 off 77 balls, 7 fours) and Kate Pelle (56 off 76 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) who figured in a 109-run stand of 124 balls for the fourth wicket.
For England, Katie Jones (57 off 46 balls, 7 fours) and Mary Taylor (33* off 48 balls, 2 fours, 1 six) shared a partnership of 63 for the seventh wicket to see them over the 200-run mark after they had lost the first six wickets for 138. Larosa was the pick of the Australian bowlers with 3/31 to go with her half-century.
Sri Lanka and England, both teams without a win, play the final match of the 50-over series on Tuesday at the same venue.
