Australia record first win in last ball thriller against SL

Australia recorded their first win in the ongoing Under-19 Women’s Tri-Series when they pulled off a seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka off the last ball at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Hambantota yesterday.

Australia’s match winner was their Captain Lucy Hamilton who hit an undefeated 56 off 41 balls (8 fours) to guide her team to victory.

With Ella Briscoe (14*) the pair added 65 for the fourth wicket to see the team home. 

Needing six off the final over Australia were helped to their target when Sri Lanka Captain Manudi Nanayakkara bowled a wide off the first ball giving the opposition an extra run and an extra ball. Hamilton and Briscoe pushed the score along in singles and twos to get the team across the line in a tight finish. Australia had lost their first two matches to Sri Lanka and to England.

Earlier, Sri Lanka batting first scored 132-7 with opening bat Sanjana Kavindi making a top score of 39 off 29 balls (8 fours).

Today Australia takes on England at the same venue.
