Former Australian rugby legend and 1991 World Cup-winning team member David Campese touched down in Sri Lanka yesterday in order to attend community rugby events arranged by Zahira College for their Centenary Rugby Sevens programs, which will kick off on 31 January.
Campese will conduct a Coach the Coaches program, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) which will take place on 31 January from 8 a.m. onwards. In a very good gesture of sportsmanship, CR & FC had given the ground at longdon place free of charge for this event. CR & FC President Tikiri Ellepola said, “We gave the ground free of charge for the coaching sessions on 31 January for Zahira Centenary year. Rugby is not only about winning trophies but need to support these kind of events supporting community in sports.”
SLSRFA has invited coaches from all the schools set to take part in the schools’ rugby season, with the hope of inculcating valuable knowledge in the coaches who are set to take charge of their respective schools.
Campese will be having a college tour to Zahira College, as well assisting their 1st XV team as well.
