B.A. Sanjeewa shoots 7 under par on Day 1 to lead 2017 Pin Fernando Grand Prix October Edition

B.A. Sanjeewa, the clear leader of the CAT SOLAR powered Pin Fernando Grand Prix Rankings as at 30 September, shot an amazing bogey free round studded with seven birdies, to lead the October Edition of the Pin Fernando GP on the first round of the 54-hole event.

M.H. Chalitha Pushpikalying, third in the CAT SOLAR PFGP, fired a 4 under par 67 to be four strokes behind the leader. Seniors J.M.D. Indika and N. Amarapadme secured joint third place with 2 under par rounds. 

T. Akash and Sampath Kelum, two promising youngsters, also shot sub-par rounds to take joint fifth ahead of many top amateurs in the field.

The 130th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship is scheduled to be played from 13-19 October, up in the hills at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Course, with international participation. 

The October PFGP is a trial run to sharpen the Sri Lankan contingent in an attempt to win the Sri Lanka Amateur Championship last won by a Sri Lankan in 2012.

Sanjeewa extends lead in CAT SOLAR GRAND PRIX Rankings after September PFGP

B.A. Sanjeewa consolidated his lead at the top of the Pin Fernando Grand Prix rankings after the September edition, leading the field by a handsome 466 points. 

M.U. Chanaka Perera, a promising 22-year-old player, has progressed rapidly through the year, with consistent performances to take second spot in the CAT SOLAR Grand Prix ratings. Another youngster M.H. Chalitha Pushpika is in third place. Top seniors N. Amarapadma, Navinda Ranga, Sisira Kumara and J.M.D. Indika are in the top 10 even though they missed a few PFGP editions in the year.

The October edition of the Pin Fernando Grand Prix 2017 powered by CAT SOLAR got underway yesterday at the RCGC.

The 130th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship 2017 will be played in the beautiful city of Nuwara Eliya from 14-19 October. The Sri Lanka Ladies Amateur Championship too will be played concurrently. International participation from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh is confirmed and a likely Sri Lankan champion is expected, with one having not won since N. Thangaraja won in 2012.
