BCB hopeful about upcoming tour of Sri Lanka

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is hopeful that the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, scheduled for July this year, might go ahead. Both BCB and Sri Lanka Cricket [SLC] are in discussion over the future of the bilateral series amid worldwide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic. Both boards however are willing to follow the directives from respective governments before getting into a final commitment on the series.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed that they are in constant touch with SLC regarding the tour that includes three Test matches that are part of the ICC Test Championship.

"I had a meeting with SLC CEO even yesterday [Wednesday]. We are discussing about the tour but we are yet to decide anything at the moment,'' said Nizamuddin to the media on Thursday.

In March, BCB postponed third and final phase of Bangladesh team's tour of Pakistan for an ODI and a Test in Karachi in April and also tour of Ireland in May due to coronavirus pandemic. Two-match Test series against Australia at home was also postponed later and there is uncertainty over hosting New Zealand for two-match Test series in August.

Bangladesh is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka in the middle of July for the three Tests to be played in Colombo, Galle and Kandy respectively.

"One thing you have to keep in mind is the government's instructions on travel. If only that country is alright then that will not be enough, the guidance of our government is also important.

"We are observing the situation and how their government is tackling the situation and all that along with keeping an eye on what is the order of our government because we have to see all these things,'' Nizamuddin added. (www.thedailystar.net)
