The BMICH Annual Inter-Department Cricket Tournament was held at the Thurstan College Grounds in Colombo recently.
The matches were worked out in a limited overs format and saw the participation of the BMICH employees from 10 teams.
After several rounds of exciting matches between the competitive teams, the Housekeeping department emerged the overall Champions, with the Main Office team coming in as Runners-Up.
Chanaka Pradeep from Housekeeping was adjudged Man of the Series and Man of the Match. The Best Bowler and Best Batsman of the Series awards went to Chathura Prabath Gunathilaka from the Main Office and Chandana Harischandra from the Main Office, respectively.
The BCIS ladies’ team showed their talent by defeating the main office ladies’ team to win the Women’s Cricket Championship trophy. Kanchana Senevirathne from BCIS was adjudged as the Woman of the Match Best Batswoman, while Nisansala Yapa from BMICH received the Best Bowler award.
The event, held under the patronage of the BMICH Leadership team, was organised to enhance employee engagement and further encourage team spirit among the BMICH staff.
BMICH Director/CEO Sunil Dissanayake, speaking at the event, noted the importance of such events in building team spirit and leadership skills among employees. As an iconic organisation in Sri Lanka and South Asia which is committed to customer satisfaction and team work, it is important that employees are provided an environment to perform their functions in a positive atmosphere and also to provide the opportunity for them to excel in sports, and to build team spirit and camaraderie as all employees play a major role in the achievements of the BMICH.
