World Rugby (WR) has lifted the ban imposed on Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) with immediate effect. This was confirmed by Asia Rugby President Qais Al Dalai in UAE. The official announcement will be made in the near future by WR.
The ban prevented Sri Lanka from participating at any International event and this made the National sevens team to play under the National Olympic Committee (NOC) flag at the Asian games 2023 in China. National sevens team also missed out on the Asia Rugby Sevens 2023 which took place in South Korea and Thailand earlier this year. With the lifting of the ban, Sri Lanka will be able to play in the Olympic Qualification sevens later this month in Japan, provided if it gives time to field a team and have training sessions.
Sri Lanka is also down to play in the Asia Rugby XV, a side Under 19 event, among the top 4 teams in Asia. This is scheduled to take place in December this year.
