A fine all-round performance by Jannatul Maoua (24 runs and 3/23) saw Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 21 runs and share the four-match Under19 Women’s T20 series 2-all at the BRC grounds yesterday.

It was a creditable comeback by Bangladesh who lost the first two matches to Sri Lanka, but fought back well to win the next two.

Jannatul top scored for Bangladesh after they were invited to bat first and were dismissed for 126. Highlight of the innings was the 37-run stand between Jannatul and Afia Ashima (21) that lifted them to their final total after losing half the side for 59.

Rashmika Sewwandi was the pick of the Lankan bowlers with figures of 3/28.

Sri Lanka’s innings never really got going after they lost the first two wickets for two runs in the second over. They failed to stitch together any noteworthy partnerships as they slid to 74-8.

Hiruni Hansika hit a plucky 44* off 29 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes) and shared an unbroken ninth wicket stand of 31 with Chamodi Prabodha (3*), but the task proved beyond them and they ended up scoring 105-8.

Scores:

Bangladesh U19 Women 126 (19.5) (Mosammat Eva 20, Afia Ashima 21, Jannatul Maoua 24, Rashmika Sewwandi 3/28, Chamodi Prabodha 2/18)

Sri Lanka U19 Women 105-8 (20) (Manudi Nanayakkara 25, Hiruni Hansika 44*, Jannatul Maoua 3/23)
