T. Lukshan speaking on the basics of baseball

Baseball has officially touched down in Jaffna, as the sport was formally introduced to eight schools in the region.

There will be a permanent coaching cadre based in Jaffna which will offer a major contribution to players there.

T. Lukshan has been assigned the role of being the coach who will take care of the fundamentals of the players while at the same time identifying and developing coaches from the Northern Province.

Lukshan was educated at Ranabima Royal College in Kandy, and played for the school and the Ranabima Old Boys Club. He is a reputed coach and highly competent umpire.

Since the conclusion of the war, there has been very little exposure for students in Jaffna and with the introduction of baseball, they will be able not just to play for the school but also represent their province and the national team.

The Baseball Association said it felt that that there were many talented athletes capable of taking up the sport in the near future.
