Reuters: Bayern Munich returned home on Sunday (May 20) to celebrate winning the Bundesliga championship, but without having taken home the German Cup on Saturday (May 19).

Fans gathered in central Munich’s Marienplatz square where the team gathered on the town hall balcony.

It was a bittersweet farewell for Bayern’s Heynckes, who will go back into retirement after taking over in October and leading them to their sixth straight Bundesliga title. Heynckes had coached them to the treble in 2013.

Ante Rebic struck twice as Eintracht Frankfurt upset champions Bayern Munich 3-1 to win the German Cup for the fifth time and deny their opponents the domestic double to mark the retirement of coach Jupp Heynckes.

Native Bavarian and Bayern Munich forward Thomas Mueller expressed his disappointment at the loss, but said he was impressed with how many fans came out to celebrate
