The much looked after Inter Club Rugby encounter between the two unbeaten outfits Kandy SC and Havelock SC was postponed to 20 March at Nittawela Rugby Stadium.
The reason for the postponement was due to eight of the Kandy SC players being tested positive for COVID.
Kandy SC Team Manager Kapila Silva speaking to Daily FT said: “eight of our players and one of the coaching staff tested positive for COVID. We do our tests for players once a week and we found these eight players being positive after the CR and FC encounter. We requested for a postponement and now the game will be played on March 20 at our ground.”
CR hold the edge
Confident Police SC will host the CR and FC at Police Park this week which will be a top-class affair.
Though losing out in their last encounter, Police SC are expected to bounce back in this encounter. Meanwhile, though the CR and FC outfit went down to Kandy SC, up in the Hills they too provided some top class rugby in the later half through their heavy forwards whilst the champion club was struggling.
Wageesha Weerasinghe, Skipper Iroshan Silva and Sachith Silva are their leading players in the Cops outfit. They will need to guide and team up with the youngsters to overcome the Red Shirts.
Meanwhile, the Red Shirts though going down with Kandy SC, played top class rugby in the later half through their heavy sets of forwards. Their Hooker and former Royalist Supun Warunakulasuriya, Zayan Zabar and Kavindu de Costa are expected to come up with a strong performance with the support of their players.
CR will be boosted with the return of former Trinity Centre Kanchana Ramanayake. He is a class player with sound defence as well as multiple attacking ways under his belt.
The game is expected to be a close affair with the Red Shirts holding a slight edge.
CH should have things their way
CH and FC should have things their own way when they face one of the weakest sides in the Inter Club league, Army SC.
CH and FC got ample experience but as a team their delivery level is being below standards.
Ganuka Dissanayake, Sayuru Anthony, Samuel Ogbeboo, Skipper Muthuthanthri and Sudam Sooriyarachchi, all in good form should give them a handy win to keep their hopes alive in the League.
Meanwhile the Solders are going through a lean patch this season. Led by Gayan Salinda, Sudaraka Dikkumbura and Tharindu Hettiarachchi should guide the juniors through. But it will be a tough task for the Army outfit to contain the experienced CH outfit.
Navy hold the edge
Sailors will be at Ratmalana meeting the unpredictable Air Force outfit.
Skipper Adeesha Weeratunge, Chathura Seneviratne and Thilina Weerasinghe are top class attacking players.
The lads from Welisara will also have the former Antonian player Samuel Maduwantha. He is one of the top performers in the kicking area where he could gain lot of territory for the Sailors, plus his place kicking could be vital when he comes in to the Park in the later half.
Meanwhile the Air Force outfit will rally around with their skipper Nuwan Perera and Gayantha Idamalgoda who should get the help of their youngsters to pull this off.
On form the Sailors hold slight edge.
