Bloomfield secured their second successive win in the SLC Major Club T20 tournament when they defeated Panadura SC by eight wickets at the SSC grounds yesterday to consolidate their position at the top of Group D.

Bloomfield kept Panadura SC down to a total of 125-7 and knocked the runs off with nine balls to spare with openers Hasitha Amarasinghe (44 off 31 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes) and Hasitha Boyagoda (35 off 30 balls, 3 fours) providing the base for the run chase with a stand of 72 off 43 balls.

Following a rain-ruined first game CCC registered their first win with a 46-run defeat of Police SC at the SSC grounds to head Group A. Sri Lanka test opener Nishan Madushka slammed 36 off 20 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes) out of an opening stand of 40 with Lasith Croospulle whose contribution was only three. Croospulle (48 off 32 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes) then joined forces with Pawan Pathiraja (46 off 41 balls, 6 fours) in a second wicket partnership of 93 to see CCC reach a challenging score of 175-7. Police SC leg-spinner Supun Madushanka took a career best 4/24. Police SC got off to a flying start with Chaturanga Jayathilake (25) and skipper Kusal Perera (12) posting 40 for the first wicket in 3.4 overs, but CCC bowlers gained control from there onwards and despite a fighting 48 off 45 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes) by Heshan Danushka, Police SC were dismissed for 129 in 19.4 overs.

Kandy Customs CC suffered their second defeat when Colts beat them by seven wickets at Bloomfield grounds. In a low scoring game, Kandy Customs CC were shot out for 91 by spinners Akila Dananjaya (3/18) and Sanoj Darshika, a career best 4/5. Colts lost three cheap wickets inside the first power play for 15 runs, before test batsman Dinesh Chandimal (46* off 33 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes) and Ravindu Rasantha (36* off 26 balls, 4 fours, 1 six) took them past the finishing line in an unbroken stand of 77 off 50 balls.

The star-studded NCC with six national players in their side began the tournament with a facile seven wicket thrashing of Nugegoda SWC at Bloomfield grounds. Chamika Karunaratne (3/17) and Lasith Embuldeniya (3/30) took three wickets apiece to put out Nugegoda SWC for 132 for whom former NCC captain Angelo Perera made a top score of 34 off 16 balls. NCC powered by an opening stand of 79 off 32 balls between skipper Niroshan Dickwella (45 off 16 balls, 6 fours, 3 sixes) and Kamil Mishara (63 off 38 balls, 8 fours, 3 sixes) romped home with 47 balls to spare.
