Two leading match commissioners Tuan Dole and Kavinda Jayasena both have recommended not hosting any matches of the Clifford Cup knockout rugby encounters at the Bogambara Stadium.
Sports meets of various Kandy schools are taking place at present and the ground looks hard which is dangerous for the players. Sri Lanka Rugby will have a meeting with club representatives on 12 February to decide on the Kandy venue.
The only option left for the organisers is the Trinity College Rugby Stadium at Pallekelle. A packed house cannot be expected and a low gate collection could be expected if the games are hosted at Pallekelle which will force Sri Lanka Rugby to arrange transport to and from Kandy for the spectators.
The Kandy Sports Club, the defending Clifford Cup knockout and league champions, made Nittawela Ground available to host the games without any cost for Sri Lanka Rugby. Kandy SC officials also agreed to play the finals (if Kandy makes it to the final) at any ground in Kandy. (SJ)
